I'm not sure what you mean by in gas mode. The electric motor will not remote start. The OM has a section on remote starting:

 

When I remote start my car the gas engine is not running. The dash is lit the the climate control and heated seats are on but it’s as if I’m sitting at a light in electric mode.

I think I might have the answer. Every time I use the remote start function on the Dodge app, and then approach the car with my keys in my pocket, the gas engine will start.

I'm remembering this, because I live on the side of a mountain, and things have been covered by snow for a week, then we had an ice storm, so now we've had a sheet of ice for another week. This one time, I'm going to deliberately NOT start the car, to see if the system will protect itself from allowing the starting battery to run down.

Nobody in their right mind would try to walk out there, right now. Maybe in a couple more days it'll be melted to the point where the concrete will be revealed and I can walk on it.
