One of the biggest differences between both the Dodge Hornet and Jeep Compass is performance. The Hornet makes 68 more hp and 50 more lb-ft than the Compass but gives up 3 mpg to the Jeep. But Hornet owners will have to pay for premium 91 octane fuel to get all 268 ponies the engine produces

I assume the Compass will be more capable off the pavement also. It's not like the Hornet is factoring in even dirt roads, much less ruts (not that the Compass is a rock crawler anyway).
The other thing is, the Compass doesn't have a 4xe variant available in the US yet.

Don't the Compass and Hornet have the same, basic 2.0L turbo engine? If so, is output of the engine as installed in the Compass being restricted? That engine was also used in the 2022 Jeep Cherokee, where it delivered a claimed 270 hp (which I do not believe requires premium fuel). Prices for all but the Sport model is well into the Hornet's range, so it appears that Compass buyers are getting a poor deal horsepower-wise. I'm guessing there isn't a plan to bring the 4xe variant of the present Compass to the US.

Haven't heard about a Compass 4xe for the U.S. yet but they sell something similar overseas.

One at a time:
- Probably too much to ask for, but I'd at least like to be able to choose between low and high hp engines. The Compass could have been the segment hot rod. Guess I'm not "most buyers", LOL.
- I think electrification in that segment is a higher priority in Europe than it is in the US. The US already has Wrangler and Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrids.
- Getting close to doing so, probably a GT Plus with the tech package. Color is still being discussed. I do not think red seats with red exterior is "too much".

Definitely looks similar in a lot of ways, but lower, more hunkered down. Should handle better, obviously less ground clearance but that helps handling...and makes it easier to get high-centered in snow.
